Anchoring. In every experience that you have there are things that you see, hear taste and smell. All of these bits of the experience are connected or anchored together in your mind. Any single part of that experience can be used to recreate the state of mind that you were in at that time.

Anchor and anchor chains as a metaphor
This picture is an anchor to an anchor. What this means is that when you see an image you remember what it is because the memory is “anchored” in your mind to the meaning you created for that image. It is how language works. You associate an image or a sound with a meaning that has been created .
For instance, seeing a picture of an old friend or
hearing a piece of music may remind you about how you felt way back then.
Tasting food cooked in a certain style can remind you about a you experienced as a child. Eating candy floss for instance.
Smelling pop corn may remind you of a visit to the cinema.
Feeling how your body felt when you relax can assist you to relax right now.
You are consistently being anchored into certain states of mind in this manner. Even written words like these are anchors. The word Anchor reminds you of how an anchor looks and of things that you may have heard about anchors such as the different types and sizes of anchors.
Anchors are useful for moving yourself or somebody else from one state to a state that is more useful. You can shift into just about any state of mind or physiology you want to.
The changes that people want to make when they seek out counselling or coaching can be understood as changing negative anchors to positive ones. Many of nlp’s change techniques are uses of this simple principle .
Resource anchors can be used to move people into a state of being, well, resourceful and confident.
A strong resource anchor can be collapsed with an anchor for an unwanted response so that the resources can be accessed in the situation they are needed in. People can also be guided from one state to another that is more useful using a chain of anchors
A new way of doing things or strategy to use the nlp term can be anchored into place so that the situation that once caused an unpleasant response now triggers a more useful way of doing things.

NLP skills are a set of skills, beliefs and attitudes, techniques and strategies that are useful in every day life. These skills can be and are applied in many different areas of life.
Before I dive in and begin it is important to realise that the nlp skills that you learn on a practitioner course, for example, are skills you’re probably already using. They are not Voodoo. They are not manipulative though they can be abused that way. They are simply this. A set of beliefs and attitudes that are useful because they work. It’s all about learning which skill to use and when.
NLP is nothing New
A little history is probably in order here. NLP is nothing new . In fact the things that Bandler and Grinder identified were originally discovered by William James and written about in his book Psychology. In 1895….! So it goes without saying that here really is nothing new under the sun.
What William James observed was that there are some activities which some people use which were more likely to get them the results that they wanted. And that is the whole basis of modern NLP. It’s simply doing what works .
Now that makes a lot more sense to me than doing what doesn’t work. Einstein’s comment about the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results spring to mind. I’m fairly sure you agree that Einstein was a smart cookie.
The thing is that because NLP skills are based on modeling or copying what really successful people do and then teaching it to others there will always be those who abuse those skills. I mean there are some real scuzzballs out there.
There are also people who just want better results for their life and for their families.
For the people that they really care about.
There are people who want more harmony in the world and want their fellow human beings to be happier. And lets face it who hasn’t seen somebody else’s potential and said to them self. If Only I could unlock that for them. Think of your kids, siblings or your parents even.
There isn’t a single area of life where NLP skills cannot be applied .
They are used in business, relationships, Teaching and training ( NLP’s accelerated learning strategies allowed me to become an internationally certified trainer in 108 days ), health care, spirituality. In fact I cannot think of a single area of life where NLP isn’t or can’t be applied.
A Useful Re-frame ( A Different way of looking at things )
If some one was to come to you and say “Hey, I want to show you a way that you can be more relaxed, more confident, more successful and be more liked than you are right now. Which will means that you’ll be better at your job; a better parent; partner, lover, spouse and your relationships will run more smoothly..”
Are you gonna say no it’s all just manipulation. And what if they also said that these things they’re going to teach you are used by some of the most charismatic leaders the world has ever known. the most successful business people. The happiest families.
Think about it.
Success is getting what you want…Happiness is wanting what you get…
Who is stopping you from getting either of these ……?
I recently came across this article by Rebecca Cherry on Dimensional Bliss and it seems to confirm what we teach on our NLP courses that the mind and body are in fact one system. it also lends weight to what is taught in Qui gong that we actually have three brains.
Have a read and then allow yourself to imagine all of the possible things that you can do with this learning Recently, Neurophysicists have been astonished to discover that the Heart is more an organ of intelligence,How smart is your heart ?
